Mineola, Texas Consolidates East Texas Economic Development Through TX-PACE

Since its organization in 2015, the Texas PACE Authority  (TPA) has administered local Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) programs authorized under Chapter 399 of the Local Government Code on behalf of local governments across Texas.

To date these programs have been responsible for almost $700 million in capital investment in private commercial real estate using no public funds. The increase in local economic investment also represents an even greater savings in energy and water utility costs to private property owners and the conservation of critical energy and water resources.

On April 27th the Mineola City Council approved a resolution to become the 111th local government in Texas to make this valuable economic development and resource conservation tool available to private property owners and entered into a third party services agreement to have TPA administer the program at no cost to the City of Mineola.

The City’s adoption of the PACE program was motivated in part by a project supported by the Mineola Economic Development Corporation to bring a Holiday Inn Express hotel facility to Mineola. In addition to local incentives, the addition of PACE as a cost-effective financing tool will make the project supported by the city more viable financially while reducing the facility's impacts on local energy and water utility infrastructure.

The addition of Mineola to the roster of local PACE programs adds another PACE region to East Texas and expands the opportunity to advance local economic development goals in this growing region. Mineola is an increasingly favored destination for those looking to enjoy a small town experience and the many attractions the city provides, including the Mineola Nature Preserve, museums, antiques and other shopping options, an historic theater and, of course, the nationally popular fishing opportunities at nearby Lake Fork and other East Texas waters. The addition of a national branded hotel facility will only make these attractions even more accessible to visitors to Mineola.
