Shady Grove Baptist Church Completes Greenville’s First TX-PACE Project with Rooftop Solar

Shady Grove Baptist Church has completed a landmark $322,765 TX-PACE project to install a 101 kW rooftop solar system—the first Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) project in the City of Greenville. The project was financed by Imperial Ridge Real Estate Capital, a PACE lender dedicated to advancing energy efficiency and sustainability in Texas communities.
Mark Boyer, CEO of Imperial Ridge Real Estate Capital, emphasized the importance of making PACE accessible for projects of all sizes: "Imperial Ridge is proud to be able to serve this often-overlooked segment of the C-PACE market, the small-to-medium commercial building space. Shady Grove is a perfect example of how C-PACE can be used to improve all types of buildings, not just large developments. Through our balance sheet financing model, flexible investor base, and lean overhead, we look to enable these smaller scale efficiency upgrades."
Summer Spurlock, City Manager of the City of Greenville, highlighted the project’s broader impact: "This project demonstrates the positive impact of the TX-PACE program in Greenville. By providing a pathway for energy upgrades like rooftop solar, TX-PACE helps reduce costs for property owners, supports local economic development, and builds a stronger, more resilient community."
Although smaller than many commercial PACE transactions, this investment will make a meaningful difference for Shady Grove Baptist Church. By lowering long-term energy costs , the church can devote more resources to ministry and community service and reduce environmental impact.
Pastor Steven McAbee of Shady Grove Baptist Church shared: "For over 130 years, Shady Grove has been growing and adapting to serve Greenville. Embracing renewable energy is the next step in that journey, ensuring we remain a place of worship, service, and hope well into the future."
Founded in 1888, Shady Grove Baptist Church has been a cornerstone of Greenville’s faith community for more than 130 years. Its step into renewable energy builds on a longstanding tradition of stewardship and growth.
The Texas PACE program enables property owners to finance energy and water efficiency upgrades through private lenders, secured by a special property assessment. By leveraging this tool, Shady Grove Baptist Church has become a leader in demonstrating how faith-based organizations can combine stewardship with sustainability.
