USGBC South TX Luncheon

Mikel Wilkins will cover additional strategies for reducing climate impacts while boosting the sustainable performance of projects that incorporate site planning along with design and operational perspectives. 

He will highlight the development of the Sustainable Impact Compass being used for all of TBG Partners’ projects and how it relates to ASLA’s Climate Action Plan.  He will discuss development of the system and some readily available tools that facilitate the implementation of this system.

Speakers:

Kate Sector – As Lake|Flato Architects’ Design Performance Manager, Kate informs firm-wide design performance efforts and coordinates with project teams to assist with project-specific performance goal setting, building simulations, certification processes and documentation, and post-occupancy evaluation.

Kate specializes in operational and embodied carbon analysis and research and has presented at conferences such as AIA National, Greenbuild, and TxA. Outside of work, Kate is concluding her tenure as the chair of the AIA COTE (Committee on the Environment) San Antonio Chapter and is excited to join the TxA COTE Board as a committee member starting in 2024.

Mikel Wilkins – An Environmental Engineer with more than 30 years of experience, Mikel collaborates with teams across TBG to evaluate the sustainable performance of projects under design to identify opportunities to enhance the triple bottom line. Mikel specializes in planning, design, and policy related to the integration of green infrastructure systems into the built environment.

He enjoys multi-disciplinary design approach projects that rely on creativity, innovation, education, and compassion to guide the planning and design process and ultimately provide the most community benefits. Mikel also has a passion for education and currently teaches a class on sustainable infrastructure as an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University.
